Step-by-Step Tutorial: How to Use This Tool

Step 1: Enter Daily Driving Distance

Write how many kilometers you drive every day. If you drive 50 km daily, enter 50. The tool will calculate your yearly distance automatically.

Step 2: Enter Petrol Price

Add the current petrol price per liter in your country or city. You can use dollars, rupees, dirhams or any currency. Just use the same currency in all fields.

Step 3: Enter Petrol Car Mileage

Write your petrol car mileage in kilometers per liter. For example, if your car gives 15 km per liter, enter 15.

Step 4: Enter Electricity Price

Add your electricity price per kWh. This helps calculate how much it costs to charge an electric vehicle.

Step 5: Enter EV Efficiency

EV efficiency is usually shown as kWh per 100 km. For example, many EVs use around 14 to 20 kWh per 100 km depending on size and driving style.

Step 6: Choose Comparison Period

Select 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 7 years or 10 years. Longer periods show bigger ownership cost differences.

Step 7: Add Maintenance Cost

Enter monthly maintenance cost for petrol and EV. EVs often have lower maintenance because they have fewer moving parts, but tires and battery checks still matter.

Step 8: Add Charger Cost

If you install a home charger, enter that cost. If not, keep it as 0.

Step 9: Click Compare

The calculator will show petrol fuel cost, EV charging cost, total maintenance, total ownership cost and estimated savings.

EV vs Petrol: Which One Saves More Money?

An electric car can save money if electricity is cheap, daily driving is high and charging is easy. A petrol car may be better if fuel prices are low, EV price is high, charging stations are limited or you drive very little.

Important Buying Tips

  • If you drive many kilometers daily, an EV may save more money.
  • If electricity is expensive in your area, EV savings may be smaller.
  • If petrol prices rise, EVs become more attractive.
  • Always check battery warranty before buying an EV.
  • For petrol cars, check engine condition, fuel economy and maintenance history.
  • For EVs, check battery health, range, charger type and charging network.
