The most reliable engines in the world.
Experts named the most reliable four-cylinder naturally aspirated engines.
Four-cylinder engines
Four-cylinder engines are still the most common on the market. Automakers use them in a variety of models, from the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla economy cars to trucks and vans. Experts from the auto portal have found out which four-wheel drive engines are the most reliable.
The first is the 2.4-liter Toyota 22RE with 105 hp, released in 1985 for the Toyota Hilux pickup and 4Runner SUV. The diesel version of the engine underwent a series of strength tests and passed them.
According to car owners, the engine has some shortcomings, but they are few. These are front seals, which can crack and leak, and cylinder head gaskets, which need to be changed after a mileage of 160 thousand kilometers.
The second reliable four-cylinder engine is the Honda K24. It has been installed in Honda cars since the 2000s. Among its shortcomings, experts named premature wear of the exhaust camshaft and leaking seals. There may also be problems associated with carbon buildup in valve seals and intake valves, resulting in increased fuel consumption and loss of power. But overall the unit is rated as very worthy.
