Lotus Emeya became the fastest charging electric car.
The Lotus Emeya was recently crowned the fastest-charging electric vehicle on the market, and it was an undeniable triumph. According to a study conducted by consulting company P3 Group as part of its annual Charging Index study, Emeya managed to charge from 10 to 80% in just 14 minutes.
Let us remind you that the Lotus Emeya has an electric power plant with a capacity of 905 hp, which is powered by a 102 kWh battery. All models participating in the test are available for purchase in Asia. In past years, research has been conducted in Europe and the US, and previous winners have included the Lucid Air GT, Porsche Taycan, Mercedes EQS and Kia EV6. However, all of them were beaten by the new champion from Lotus, which significantly outperformed current competitors such as the BMW i7 and Tesla Model Y Long Range.

Emeya is capable of achieving charging speeds

This test was not carried out in laboratory conditions, but was aimed at verifying real-world charging efficiency. The cars were charged at public Combined Charging System Type 1 and 2 charging stations with a power of up to 400 kW, and Tesla was charged at V3 Superchargers. Charging was carried out from 10 to 80% of the battery capacity.
The tests revealed that Emeya is capable of achieving charging speeds of up to 402 kW, with an average speed of 331 kW, which is significantly better than other competitors except the XPENG G9. As the test continues, the charging speed decreases, but is still significantly faster than the competition. The Tesla peaks at 229kW, then drops to an average of 141kW, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 peaks at 235kW, then drops to an average of 184kW. The remaining models show mixed results.
Overall, the Emeya was able to add 455 km to its range with 20 minutes of charging, while its closest competitor, the EQS, added 370 km in the same time. Many of the selected vehicles performed well, with the Ioniq 6 having the lowest power consumption, allowing it to compete with vehicles with much larger batteries.

hybrid system based on the tiny Firefly petrol engine

In an extremely unusual move, the 500e, which has only been offered as an electric vehicle since its 2020 launch, will now be redesigned with a 48-volt mild hybrid system based on the tiny Firefly petrol engine. As Fiat is discontinuing the older 500 version that was assembled in Poland, the 500e Hybrid will be built on the same platform as the 500e EV.
Automotive News Europe reports that Fiat aims to sell 125,000 hybrid 500 units annually, based on information provided by suppliers. The 500e EV has a starting price of about 29,000 euros. The US will also see the release of this model.
The CEO of the Fiat brand, Francois Olivier, stated that because the hybrid 500e will have more technological features than the Polish-built model, which starts at €18,000, it will cost "several hundred euros" more.
Production at Fiat's headquarters, the Mirafiori complex in Turin, Italy, is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026.
