A series of spy shots of the upcoming AITO M9, a new SUV for the Chinese car market, has appeared online. The M9 is by far the largest car of the AITO brand. The test car is still heavily camouflaged, but it seems to have a sharper design than other brand cars.
AITO is a brand of the Sokon Group, which also owns the Seres brand. Seres is positioned as a basic brand, and AITO is positioned as a sub-premium brand. Both brands use Huawei technologies: all software, screens, audio, driver assistance systems, cameras, sensors and even electric motors are supplied by Huawei. This company, best known for its networking technologies, has become an important player in China's automotive industry.
AITO stands for "Adding Intelligence to cars". Currently, the brand's range consists of two models: AITO M7 and AITO M5. M7 is an EREV (a car with a power reserve expander), the M5 is available both in the EREV version and in an all—electric version. The M7 is already a fairly large car with six seats and a length of 5.02 meters and a wheelbase of 2.82 meters.
However, the upcoming AITO M9 will be even bigger. The length can exceed 5.2 meters, and the wheelbase is just over 3 meters. Like many premium Chinese SUVs, it will be available in a variety of seat configurations, including a 4-seat, 6-seat and 7-seat layout.
The interior is still being finalized, but we can see leather seats, a medium-sized touchscreen and a steering wheel with a beveled bottom. The most powerful version of the EREV will use the same layout as in the M7: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine and two electric motors. The total power of the units will be about 500 horsepower.
The AITO M9 will appear on the Chinese automotive market in the third quarter. The price starts from 350,000 yuan (about 3.67 million rubles).
