Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new luxury electric crossover Maybach EQS 680 SUV.
The debut of the first electric Maybach took place on the stage of the Shanghai Auto Show. But the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV crossover is not an independent model, but only the most powerful, luxurious and expensive version of the EQS SUV crossover. There are no body differences from the base model: the electro-Maybach has the same wheelbase (3210 mm) and overall length (5125 mm) as the younger versions. But the spirit of modern Maybach is conveyed in full.
Of the external features — a different pattern of the radiator pseudo-grille (in fact, it is a plug), abundant chrome decor, original wheels with a diameter of 21 or 22 inches. Moreover, in some elements (for example, in the inserts of the front bumper), an ornament is made from the logos of the Maybach brand. Matrix headlamps Digital Light are included in the basic configuration, two—tone body paint - for an additional fee. The interior also has a rich design, and the Maybach was not influenced by the trend of switching to a recycled finish. Therefore, the basic equipment has a natural nappa leather finish and wooden veneer inserts. Although "eco-friendly" coffee bean shells are used for processing and tanning leather. The MBUX Hyperscreen front panel is included as standard, but the graphics have been changed: there are Discreet, Sporty and Maybach display modes.
The main attention is paid to the rear of the cabin. There are separate seats that are pushed back (compared to the "normal" Mercedes EQS SUV) and have a wide range of electrical adjustments, heating, ventilation and a built-in massager. Neck and shoulder areas are heated separately. A removable "tablet" is installed in the massive central tunnel to control on—board systems, folding tables and a cooled bottle compartment are available for an additional fee. Separate screens for rear passengers (11.6 inches each) can also be ordered for Maybach.
The interior has a developed backlight, which includes 253 individually controlled LEDs, each with 64 working colors. Adjustable ceiling lights are embedded in the rear roof posts. The standard Burmester audio system is with fifteen speakers. The trunk volume is 440 liters compared to 645 liters for the basic two—row crossover, and the compartment is finished with Artico artificial leather and decorated with wooden inserts.
The electric car has a pneumatic suspension as standard (the car can be raised by 35 mm) and a fully controlled chassis. By default, the rear wheels can rotate at an angle of up to 4.5 degrees, and for an additional fee, the angle of rotation can be increased to an impressive 10 degrees. Increasing the angle of rotation of the rear wheels will reduce the diameter of the U—turn by almost a meter - from 11.9 to 11 meters.
If at the top of the "usual" range is a twin-engine version of the EQS 580 SUV (544 hp, 858 Nm), then the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV has all-wheel drive with two motors, the output of which reaches 658 hp and 950 Nm. Moreover, the front module is equipped with a clutch for disconnecting the motor from the wheels: in highway modes, the Maybach rides on a rear-wheel drive. Eco, Sport, Offroad and Individual driving modes are provided, but the most comfortable Maybach preset is enabled by default.
Like other modifications, the Maybach has a battery with a capacity of 107.8 kWh, the expected mileage on a single charge is 600 km. Onboard chargers of alternating (22 kW) and direct current (200 kW) are provided. Acceleration time to "hundreds" is 4.4 seconds versus 4.6 for the EQS 580 SUV version. The maximum speed is 210 km/h.
Electro-Maybahs will be produced at the same factory in the USA, where other EQE and EQS crossovers are made. The price has not yet been announced, but most likely it will exceed 200 thousand euros in Europe. For example, a petrol Mercedes-Maybach GLS costs from 173 thousand euros there.
