Skoda may close the plant and lay off thousands of employees because of the new Euro-7 standard
Audi CEO Markus Dusmann believes that the adoption of the Euro-7 standard should be postponed.
The other day it became known that Audi CEO Markus Dusmann believes that the transition to the Euro-7 standard should be postponed indefinitely, because it does not give automakers enough time to prepare. Recall that its adoption is scheduled for mid-2025.
It should be noted that any automaker will have to re-certify all components and assemblies of its models when switching to Euro-7, and this requires not only time, but also additional funds. In addition, the development of new catalysts and filters will be required. Obviously, manufacturers will not want to lose profits and will shift these costs to customers.
In turn, the head of the Skoda brand Martin Yan recently said that the brand will have to close the plant if the Euro-7 standard is adopted in its current form. He noted that in this case, the brand will refuse to release Fabia, Scala and Kamiq models.
Euro-7 standards
Euro-7 standards are a promising set of rules that will apply to all cars, even those that do not have an internal combustion engine. With the Euro-7 standard, the EU will become the first region in the world to propose limits on emissions unrelated to exhaust gases, starting with particulate emissions from the brakes of passenger cars and vans.
