Toyota has introduced a new crossover Grand Highlander with three rows of seats. Toyota has introduced a new crossover Grand Highlander. This is a completely independent model developed for the United States. The large all-terrain vehicle received a salon with three rows of seats, rich basic equipment and three power plants. Two of them are the same as the regular Highlander. The third, Hybrid Max, went to the car from the Toyota Crown cross-sedan.
In Toyota's view, the new Grand Highlander is a typical family cruiser for America, on which you can take children to school and drive from one coast to another. At the same time, the crossover is positioned as an independent model, and not an elongated version of the usual Highlander. It has an original design developed by Toyota—owned studio Calty, although the platform is the same - TNGA-K with a transverse engine layout, McPherson and a multi-link.
The crossover has a full-fledged third row of seats, a spacious trunk with unfolded seats accommodating up to seven suitcases for hand luggage; 13 cup holders and seven USB-C ports. Already "in the base", the Grand Highlander is equipped with front seats with electric controls, heating and Softex leather upholstery, a media system with a 12.3-inch screen, a trunk door servo and a universal garage door opener.
By default, the Grand Highlander also has a complex of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 electronic assistants. It includes blind spot monitoring, dynamic radar cruise control, road sign recognition systems, lane keeping and much more. The older Limited and Platinum versions come with heated steering wheel, seat ventilation, a JBL audio system with 11 speakers and a panoramic roof. In the range of engines — three installations to choose from.
The initial one is a 2.4 turbo engine (269 hp, 430 Nm) with an eight—speed "automatic. This is followed by a hybrid system based on the "atmospheric" 2.5 (246 hp) and the Hybrid Max installation from the Crown cross-sedan.
In it, the gasoline "turbochetverka" 2.4 is paired with a six-speed "automatic" and an electric motor. The drive is full. Combined output — 367 horsepower and 542 Nm of torque. This crossover accelerates to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.3 seconds and is able to tow a 2.3-ton trailer.
The Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in Princeton, Indiana, will produce the Grand Highlanders. The start of sales is scheduled for the summer. There are no prices yet. They promise to announce them in a while.
