New Bentley Continental GT
Bentley has completed production of the legendary W12 engine
Bentley has completed production of the legendary W12 engine.
Bentley is ending production of its iconic 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine. Over 21 years, more than 100,000 examples of this unit were produced, which became an integral part of many Bentley models and a symbol of the modern revival of the company under the control of the VW group.
The W12 engine is distinguished by its unique layout: instead of the traditional two banks of six cylinders of the classic V12, it uses four banks of three cylinders. This solution made it possible to make the engine more compact and shorter, while maintaining high power. It first appeared in the Continental GT in 2003, producing 552 hp. and 650 Nm of torque, which allowed the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of almost 320 km/h.
Now the W12 gives way to a new plug-in hybrid, which includes a 4.0-liter V8 with two turbines and an electric motor, providing peak power of 771 hp, writes SPEEDME.RU. While it's also an impressive setup, it's hard not to feel sad at the loss of the W12, one of the most unique engines ever produced.
Earlier, journalists from 32cars.ru wrote that on the eve of the new 2025 model year, Bentley has prepared a real gift for lovers of luxury cars. The new Continental GT Convertible has been spotted testing on American roads. This car will be the first in its class to receive a hybrid setup with a V8 engine, which makes it not only more powerful than previous models, but also more environmentally friendly.
The Bentley fourth-generation model will celebrate its premiere in June

first photos The debut of the fourth-generation grand tourer is scheduled for June
Bentley has published photos of the new Continental GT. The fourth-generation model will celebrate its premiere in June and will be the first to receive the new Ultra Performance Hybrid powerplant. Apparently, it will be installed on the top-end Continental GT Speed, which will boast an output of 782 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. In terms of power, such cars will surpass even the limited-edition Bentley Batur Convertible.
The next, fourth-generation Bentley Continental GT gran tourer will be the most technically sophisticated Continental in history. The car will be the first to test the Ultra Performance Hybrid power plant, which will replace the canonical W12 engine, and, of course, will receive a full package of advanced mechatronics - from a fully controlled chassis to electromechanical anti-roll bars. Two-valve shock absorbers with separate adjustments for compression and rebound levels will also be new.
The combined output of the hybrid system on the Continental GT will be 782 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. The production gran tourer will surpass the limited-edition Batur Convertible in terms of power and will be able to travel on electric power for up to 80 kilometers. The emissions figure will drop to 50 grams of carbon dioxide per hundred, which looks like a mere trifle compared to 311 grams for the current Continental GT Speed. There will also be lower consumption and better dynamics, but there are no details yet.
As far as can be judged from the photographs, the future Continental GT will retain recognizable proportions, but at least will acquire new headlights with stripes of running lights protruding beyond the “round” borders. We first saw something similar on the EXP 100 GT concept, and then on the Mulliner Bacalar collectible roadster. The premiere of the new model is scheduled for June this year.
