Experts called Hyundai and Kia engines the most unreliable.
The Jalopnik resource published a post with a video explaining the main "jambs" of the Theta II family of engines. It is claimed that they are the most unreliable motors of our time.
Mainly we are talking about the 2.4 liter atmospheric tank, which fails due to the crankcase. Hyundai, says the presenter in the video, explains this by production features, due to which a large amount of metal chips accumulates in the lower part of the engine during operation. It clogs the channels through which the oil circulates, which leads to quite predictable consequences.
"When the service man tells you that all the places are occupied for several weeks ahead, and all operations are engine replacement, and the workshops are littered with blocks, then it's really sad," says a note on Hyundai and Kia motors.
Theta II is a family of atmospheric and turbocharged units of 2.0 and 2.4 liters, which were installed on a wide range of models, including Hyundai Sonata, ix35/Tucson, Santa Fe, Azera, as well as Kia Optima, Sportage, Sorento, Cadenza (this is not a complete list of models equipped with Theta II engines - approx. "RG").
In the annotation to the video, the author of the post writes that the engines of other automakers may fail, but this is often due to undue attention to the timing and maintenance materials, as well as ignoring warnings from the car's electronics.
