“Previously, the chassis was made independently at the factory, now we use a car-based chassis, this gave us speed of production. The machine is a fast one, we assemble up to five units of similar machines of this class per day,” he said.
Zakharov also noted that the components for the Lens were imported, as a result of which “the machine has undergone changes.”
“Last year we completely changed its composition, moving away from imported components. The vehicle was simplified without loss of tactical and technical characteristics. The new look of the machine is simpler and easier to use,” concluded the general director of Remdizel. “Such machines are usually equipped with special medical equipment: stretchers, defibrillators, ventilators, and so on. All this allows us to provide the necessary assistance to patients during transportation to a medical facility. Sanitary vehicles provide the necessary environment for this,” the specialist explained in an interview with RT.
In turn, military observer Alexander Butyrin emphasized that after import substitution, all key components for the Lens are now supplied by Russian manufacturers.
“All the transmission components, engines and so on are all made here. Our automotive industry, especially in the military sphere, does not have any problems with this,” the expert said in a commentary to RT. "Phoenix" instead of "Typhoon".
In addition to the Lens, the base vehicle of the Typhoon line, the Typhoon-K53949 armored car, previously underwent the import substitution process. In its new form it was called “Phoenix”. On May 9, 2024, both updated cars took part in the Victory Parade on Red Square for the first time.
Like the Lens, the Phoenix received a serial chassis, which reduced the overall cost of the vehicle and increased the speed of its assembly.

The armored vehicle

Typhoon-VDV are great cars

It is worth noting that the designers initially included in the Typhoon project the possibility of creating vehicles for various purposes on its basis. One example of such special vehicles is the Typhoon-VDV. It differs from the base model in its reinforced armored hull, which is necessary for safe parachute landing.
"Typhoon-VDV" can be equipped with various weapons, including a remote-controlled combat module with a 30-mm automatic cannon with a coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun.
On the basis of the Typhoon, the self-propelled 82-mm mortar "Drok" was also created. Its gun is equipped with a modern fire control system that performs the calculations necessary for firing. All operations in preparation for a shot are carried out inside the fighting compartment.
In addition to the mortar launcher, the “Drok” is equipped with a remote-controlled module with a 7.62 mm machine gun. There is also an additional 82mm mortar on board the vehicle, which can be used separately from the armored vehicle.
On the basis of the Typhoon, the armored convoy escort vehicle “Partner”, the armored car “Typhoon-PVO” (equipped with MANPADS) and the minelaying vehicle “Kleshch” were also created. Earlier, Remdizel noted that special versions of the Typhoon will also go through the import substitution procedure.
